Congressman Dave Reichert takes law and order principles to our nation’s capital as the popular US Representative for Washington State's Eighth Congressional district. With over 30 years of law enforcement experience including eight years as Sheriff, Reichert delivered a remarkable record of public service to the citizens of King County, Washington. Elected to Congress in 2004, he now capably represents his constituents, the state of Washington and the nation. Decisive leadership, integrity and tireless dedication are the hallmarks of Reichert’s service. His committee assignments, Homeland Security, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Science and Technology give Dave a strong base of influence in Congress benefiting his Eighth District constituents. During his first term, Reichert was only the 6th freshman representative in history to be named chairman of a subcommittee. Reichert went on to win reelection in November of 2006. Now in his second term, Dave is ranking member of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Intelligence, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment.

From 1971-1976, Dave Reichert served his country in the US Air Force Reserve. He joined the King County Sheriff’s Office in 1972 and in 1997 became King County’s first elected sheriff in over 30 years. Reichert brought national recognition to the sheriff’s office as head of a task force solving one of the largest serial murder cases in US history. He is the author of Chasing the Devil: My Twenty Year Quest to Capture the Green River Killer and has been featured in several TV programs including Dateline NBC and A&E’s Cold Case Files. As sheriff, Dave brought an unprecedented $28 million in federal funding to King County law enforcement efforts. Sheriff Reichert established himself as a leading voice against domestic violence and gang violence.

Since being elected to Congress, Reichert visited our fighting men and women in Iraq and traveled to Louisiana to view Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath. In 2007, Reichert met world leaders at the Munich Conference on Security Policy. He has also toured the major west coast ports of Los Angeles and Seattle and is considered one of the House of Representative’s experts on port security.
